Chipper Jones loved playing for the Braves more than any other player in their history.
The Atlanta Braves and third baseman Chipper Jones agreed to terms December 2, 2005, on a new three-year contract which includes an option for the 2009 season.
- The Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported Jones would take a $6 million pay cut in 2006 — from $17 million to $11 million — but would receive a $4 million signing bonus in January.
- Jones’ existing contract called for options for both the 2007 and 2008 seasons at $15 million each year.
- Jones’ agent B.B. Abbott said those years are now guaranteed at $11 million per season.
The Braves will save close to $15 million over the remainder of the new agreement, which should help the club in this winter’s free agent market.
Jones — a five-time all-star and 1999 National League MVP — has a career .303 batting average, with 331 home runs and 1,111 RBI.
