The Braves visit the Mets at Citi Field on July 24, 2013. Veteran All-Star pitcher Tim Hudson is the starting pitcher for the Braves. In the 8th inning, Mets outfielder Eric Young Jr. hits a grounder to first base.
As Braves 1B Freddie Freeman fields the ball, Hudson goes to the base to cover.
He takes the throw from Freeman but steps awkwardly on the bag, and then Young, trying to run the ball out, steps on Hudson’s foot, breaking Hudson’s ankle. The Braves win the game 8-2 but Hudson needs surgery to insert pins in his ankle; he is out for the rest of the year.
The game turns out to be Hudson’s last appearance in a Braves uniform, as over the offseason he signs as a free agent with the San Francisco Giants.
