With his 244th victory on August 9, 1998, the Atlanta Braves Dennis Martinez passes Juan Marichal to become the winningest Latin American pitcher in major league baseball history. Martinez pitches a perfect eighth inning as the Braves beat the Giants, 7-5. This was Martinez’ last season in the Major League, having played for the Braves only one year.
